![]() ![]() At average operating loads of the pump station during the heating season, a code building would require more energy for conditioning the spaces than the proposed building would. The basis for this Energy Code appeal is that for this building type and usage, in this climate, a more energy efficient design is one that has less insulation. Please see the table below for a summary of the conditioning level and thermal envelope ratings of these spaces. The pump room is heated to freeze protection level by a set of electric resistance unit heaters with integral fans only. The pump room is cooled by a set oflouvers with motorized dampers and (2) exhaust fans. The electrical rooms and corridor are fully conditioned by a packaged roof top heat pump. The second story of the water pump station consists of the pump room, (2) electrical rooms, and a conidor. The Parks Depatiment storage room and restrooms are also considered outside the building envelope for this appeal. This assumption is similar to a building that has a parking garage with commercial or residential space above, and the parking garage isn't required by code to be conditioned and insulated. The access and storage area below the pump room is not conditioned and not insulated.įor the purposes of this appeal, we will consider the main floor level walls and roof of the pump station the building envelope and exclude the non-insulated and non-conditioned access area below the pump room. The restrooms are not conditioned and not insulated. The Parks storage room is freeze protected and insulated to code. The pump station shares a common wall with a separate storage room for City of Portland Parks Department equipment, and separate restrooms. ![]() ![]() The first floor consists of an access and storage area for the pump room above. We are appealing the prescriptive requirements of the building envelope through a modified STA/temperature analysis that has been previously allowed by the City of Portland, to demonsttate that the design building will utilize less energy than a code building.Ī two story water pump station is proposed. The building thermal envelope shall meet the energy code through either the prescriptive approach or simplified tradeoff approach. ![]()
